SHIRAZ, located in Fars province, is one of the major cities of Iran. The city with the population of 1,600,000 persons is the fifth most populous city in Iran (in 2010). Historically Shiraz was called “Shyrazys” “Tyrazys” according to the documents. Before Islam Shiraz was located in the place of Abu Nasr castle fortress, dating back to the Sassanid era and before. Shiraz was the capital of Iran during Saffarian, Al-Buyid and Zand eras. Before the construction of the railway, Shiraz was located on the way of commercial roads to the southern ports like Bushehr.
